According to him, the incident occurred at 00.15 (01.15 Moscow time), when a bus with Moldovan numbers arrived at a checkpoint in the Sumy region. In addition to four Moldovan citizens, Ukrainian border guards found an unknown man hiding in the cabin. For additional verification, the detainee was taken to the passport control booth, where he provided the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation, but it turned out that the man did not own the document.

“During an interview with border guards at 00.46 (01.46 Moscow time), the detainee blew himself up with an unknown explosive device. As a result of the explosion, he died, two border guards were wounded, ”Astakhov said.

The assistant to the head of the state border service of Ukraine added that an investigation had been launched into the incident.

The Ukrainian-Russian section of the border has been transferred to enhanced security. The Bachevsk checkpoint in the Sumy region is temporarily closed for a check.

According to him, a Mercedes minibus with four Moldovans arrived at the checkpoint late in the evening. There, under the covers, border guards discovered another man. He was invited to the passport control booth to verify documents. The man presented the passport of a Russian citizen born in 1982. However, when asked about the date of birth, he called another year - 1986. The border guards realized that the passport was not his - they called for reinforcements.

When the man saw three border guards through the window, one of which was with a metal detector, he took out an explosive device and, holding it in his hands, put it into action. Senior Warrant Officer Nikolai Usok realized what was happening - he rushed at the suicide bomber and covered him with his body.

Thus, he saved his colleague Sergeant Ruslan Bozhka from serious injuries. Usok himself is now in serious condition. There is no threat to God's life.

Moldovans are now being questioned by law enforcement officers. They claim that they picked up a man in Russia on a ring road. He asked them to take it with them - for money. Russian border guards let them in and did not find the “passenger”.

According to the deputy prosecutor of the Sumy region Sergey Kulinich, the version of the attack is not considered. An open criminal case under four articles: illegal transportation of explosives, illegal border crossing, attempted murder and forgery of documents.

Nothing is known about the identity of the suicide bomber. After all, they say, law enforcement officers, even in the photo in the passport, he did not look like. According to preliminary data, an explosive device blown up by an illegal was improvised.

From TSN's own sources it became known that the man presented a passport of a native of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. The present passport holder is 31 years old and he was born in the city of Chegem.

At 00.44 during an interview at the Bachevsk checkpoint, the detained citizen blew himself up with an unknown explosive device, during which two border guards died - senior warrant officer Nikolai Usok and foreman Ruslan Bozhok.

The victims were sent to the district hospital of Glukhov, where they were operated on.

"The condition of the affected border guards is grave. They have numerous wounds," the State Border Service press service said.

"The joint investigative group of the prosecutor’s office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine and the State Border Service continues to work on the spot," the border department stressed.

According to media reports, the attacker was a Chechen. The Security Service of Ukraine checks its possible involvement in terrorist activities.

It is also worth noting that the checkpoint resumed its work.
