Alexander Kuzin in his blog showed a new tool for researching sites for competitive intelligence - Web ThumbnailExpert (web-based version of the Thumbnail Expert program).
In the comments to Alexander’s post, LJ-user [info] vavasal was sincerely surprised at the presence of image cache files on reputable media sites:
vavasal Files like tumbs.db should not be on the server at all. Especially if the server is not Microsoft. For example, I would not have thought that they could be there. Now I'll know. And reputable publications have mugs in the web department.
al_kuzin Yes, most web specialists (and not only the web) have no idea what the file is and what it is eaten with. And the fact that it can be so easily visualized is 90 percent unaware.

I looked offhand the first American bank I got in Google - The World Bank. Pictures are clickable.
I took a link to the image from the main page of the site:
Her address:

Then he shortened this address to the first slash - [DLMURL] https://www.worldbank.org/wb/images/cache30/homepage/ [/ DLMURL] and put it in Web ThumbnailExpert. More precisely, the program itself took it from the buffer:
And here is the result of the program:
I showed in the screenshot only what went on one screen. When zooming in on the screenshot, the "slider" on the right is clearly visible - the one for vertical scrolling. According to his position, it is clear: there are many photos.
And if you just try to click on the shortened link without entering the addresses of the files you are looking for, a completely predictable authorization request will appear:

Александр Кузин в своем блоге показывал новый инструмент для исследования сайтов в целях конкурентной разведки - Web ThumbnailExpert (web-версия программы Thumbnail Expert) .
В комментариях к посту Александра ЖЖ-юзер [info]vavasal тогда искренне удивился наличию файлов кэша изображений на сайтах солидных СМИ:
vavasal Файлы типа tumbs.db не должны лежать на сервере вообще. Тем более, если сервер не Microsoft. Я бы, к примеру, и не подумал, что они могут там быть. Теперь буду знать. И у солидных изданий есть лопухи в веб-отделе.
al_kuzin Да, большая часть веб-спецов (и не только веб) понятия не имеют - что это за файл и с чем его едят. А то, что его можно вот так легко визуализировать - процентов 90 не в курсе.

Я посмотрел навскидку первый попавшийся мне в Гугле американский банк - The World Bank. Картинки кликабельны.
Взял ссылку на изображение с главной страницы сайта:
Ее адрес:
https://www.worldbank.org/wb/images/cach ... -op-ed.jpg
Затем укоротил этот адрес до первого слэша - [DLMURL]https://www.worldbank.org/wb/images/cache30/homepage/[/DLMURL] и поставил его в Web ThumbnailExpert. Точнее, программа сама взяла его из буфера:
И вот - результат работы программы:
Я показал на скриншоте только то что вошло на один экран. При увеличении масштаба скриншота хорошо видно "ползунок" справа - тот, что для вертикального скроллинга. По его положению понятно: там много фотографий.
А если просто попытаться перейти по укороченной ссылке, не вводя адресов искомых файлов - появится вполне предсказуемый запрос авторизации:
Думаю, это полезно знать как специалистам конкурентной разведки так и специалистам Служб Безопасности.
