The Nativity of Christ belongs to the great holidays, which the church defines especially solemnly. According to biblical testimonies, the Son of God - Jesus Christ, whom people have worshiped for more than one millennium, was born on this day. In Ukraine, Christmas is also called Kolyada or Korochun.
From the very morning of Great Christmas Day, they praised Christ: they walked "with the star" to their homes, sang church hymns and folk carols about the birth of a Baby from the Virgin, about simple shepherds and wise magicians.
From time immemorial, it was customary to carol at Christmas time: dress up, have fun games, go home, congratulate everyone you meet on Christmas, joke and sing songs.
There is such an old tradition: when the clock strikes midnight on January 6, you need to open a window or door to let Christmas into the house.
In families where the celebration of Christmas has been a tradition for centuries, it is customary to tell children that the holiday is based on the legend of the birth of the Virgin Mary of the Son of God Jesus Christ. This is the most solemn holiday in Christianity, accompanied by three church services - at midnight, at dawn and in the afternoon (that is, in the bosom of the Father, in the womb of the Mother of God and in the soul of believers). The Church teaches that the birth of Christ made it possible for every believer to save the soul and eternal life.

Рождество Христово принадлежит к большим праздникам, которые церковь определяет особенно торжественно. По библейским показаниям в этот день родился Сын Божий – Иисус Христос, которому люди поклоняются уже не одно тысячелетие. В Украине Рождество называют еще Колядой или Корочуном.
С самого утра Великого дня Рождества славили Христа: ходили "со звездой" по домам, пели церковные гимны и народные колядки о рождении Младенца от Девы, о простых пастухах и мудрых волхвах.
На Святки испокон веков было принято колядовать: рядиться, устраивать веселые игры, ходить по домам, поздравлять всех встречных с Рождеством, шутить и петь песни.
Существует и такая старинная традиция: когда 6 января часы пробьют полночь, нужно открыть окно или дверь, чтобы впустить в дом Рождество.
В семьях, где празднование Рождества является традицией в течение столетий, принято рассказывать детям о том, что в основе праздника лежит легенда о рождении Девой Марией Сына Божьего Иисуса Христа. Это самый торжественный в христианстве праздник, сопровождаемый тремя церковными богослужениями – в полночь, на рассвете и днем (то есть в лоне Отца, во чреве Богоматери и в душе верующих). Церковь учит, что рождение Христа открыло возможность для спасения души и вечной жизни для каждого верующего.
