The solution is ambiguous insofar as working through https significantly slows down the functioning of mail. “Using a secure protocol quite seriously slows down the service, increasing the technical capacity does not completely solve this problem. Currently, by default, https is used on Mail.ru for authorization in the mailbox, since this is the most vulnerable component of the system - at this moment the password from the account is transmitted over the network. We considered for ourselves the possibility of launching https on the entire service, but we believe that at the moment there are more minuses for this solution than pluses, ”Anna Artamonova, vice president of Mail.ru, said. The number of hacks for Gmail users is likely to decrease. However, owners of slow channels can refuse to use Gmail if they feel that the service has begun to work more slowly, and, not wanting to figure out the reason, go to work via http. Old users should, if they notice a slowdown in Gmail, check to see if they have transferred to https, and if necessary, switch back.
