Turning to the question of the nature of the cipher, it is necessary to distinguish the cipher in the proper sense, used for example by law enforcement agencies, and a different kind of cipher, used by private or legal entities with only their purposes. The first of them is used to ensure state security and presents algorithms, the solution of which is possible for the uninitiated only in very rare cases. This requires special preparation, conditions, and of course good luck: if at least one of these qualities is lacking, encryption will remain a cipher. As for simple "civilian" ciphers, then everyone who has the due diligence and desire can parse them. In this article I will talk exclusively about ciphers of the last kind.

Приступая к изложению о способах прочтения шифрованных текстов, я, ограничусь лишь самыми простыми рекомендациями основанных на личной и не богатой на данные примеры практикой. Тем не менее, я надеюсь изложить здесь все, что понадобиться детективу в его обыденной деятельности.
Обращаясь к вопросу о сущности шифра, следует различать шифр в собственном смысле, употребляемый например правоохранительными органами, и шифр другого рода, употребляемый частными или юридическими лицами с только им известными целями. Первый из них применяется в целях обеспечения государственной безопасности и представляет алгоритмы, разгадывание которых возможно для непосвященных лишь в очень редких случаях. Для этого необходима особая подготовка, условия и конечно удача: при недостатке хотя бы одного из этих качеств шифровка так и останется шифром. Что касается простых «гражданских» шифров, то разобрать их может каждый, обладающий должным усердием и желанием. В этой статье я буду говорить исключительно о шифрах последнего рода.
