The new Telegram protection technology cannot be blocked. It can already be turned on

Since April 16, 2018, the Telegram messenger has been blocked in Russia. Although Roskomnadzor did not manage to completely disrupt the operation of this service, work in this direction is still actively being conducted. Now, for many Russians, this service works with great interruptions. Connecting to servers often takes several minutes, and media files (photos, videos, etc.) often do not load at all.

Users can use SOCKS server proxies to bypass the lock, but they are not very reliable and convenient, especially since Roskomnadzor massively blocks them. That is why the Telegram development team has created its own proxies, which cannot be blocked due to the nature of their work. It is about supporting a technology called MTProto Proxy.

The whole secret of the new protection technology is that it disguises traffic for regular HTTPS requests, that is, in the eyes of Roskomnadzor and the Internet provider, the Russian simply visits some sites, although in reality he uses the blocked Telegram messenger. When using the new security system, the bundle for the end user looks something like this: “Client” <> “Proxy Server” <> “MTProto Server” <> “Telegram Server”. In other words, traffic is masked immediately, which avoids its detection by the Russian authorities.

Theoretically, masking requests from Telegram allows you to use this messenger even in China, that is, MTProto Proxy is able to bypass the Great Firewall. Moreover, the new technology makes it impossible to track IP addresses, access to which Roskomnadzor restricts for blocking. Everyone can already use the new method of protection against the actions of the Russian authorities, because the MTProto proxies are available for use in the Telegram applications for Android and Telegram X for iOS.

In the near future, support for the new security system will appear in applications for Mac, Windows and Linux - now developers are actively engaged in this. The Telegram team promises that in the near future everyone will have the opportunity to create their own personal proxies like MTProto, and until then everyone can use the public proxies, the messenger creators had their hand in creating them.
