CIA takes control of social networks around the world

There is a special unit in the CIA that unofficially calls itself "library ninja", which monitors records on social networks around the world. This was reported by the Associated Press, whose correspondents visited the secret CIA technology park.

According to the agency, the unit’s analysts view up to 5 million Twitter posts per day. In addition, they track posts on Facebook and other social networks, as well as analyze information from local television channels, radio stations, newspapers and local online forums.

All information in the form of reports is then reported daily to US President Barack Obama at internal White House briefings. At the same time, "library ninjas" focus on information from foreign sources, they emphasize that they do not monitor American social networks.

For the first time, according to the Associated Press, such groups of specialists appeared in the CIA after the September 11 attack. Then the authorities said that they were necessary to fight terrorism. However, since then they have noticeably expanded their activities.

In total, the Center for Open Sources (this is the official name of the unit) employs several hundred employees. The most valuable of them, according to the division’s director, are “eccentric daring hackers who know how to find information that others don’t even know existed”. The head of the center compares them with the main character of the crime novel "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

Among the "library ninja" there are many linguists whose knowledge is necessary to track activity in the social networks of China, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey and other countries.

The computer uses their 14-year-old granddaughter. Seeing that the situation took a serious turn, the girl admitted that she downloaded such a video.

“Apparently, at the age of puberty, the girl was interested in what could happen in this aspect not with adults, but with children,” says Mikhail Khurlet, chief of the investigation at police department No. 5 in Chelyabinsk. - I would like to encourage parents to keep track of what their children are doing on the Web. Even a fleeting viewing of such images has a lasting impact on the unformed psyche of children. "

According to Mikhail Khurlet, the criminal case brought under article 242.1 (production and trafficking of materials with pornographic images of minors) was discontinued due to the age of criminal responsibility.
