Independent experts say that they have developed a way to steal BMW cars equipped with an electronic lock system that works without a traditional key. The day before, a video appeared on the 1Addicts automobile forum in which the owner of a car of the specified brand, using the technique developed by him, abducted the car. The user Stolen1m says that he did not commit a real crime, as he opened his own car, but the technique he created allows him to commit such crimes.
The whole operation of hijacking a car takes about three minutes, and a specialized device capable of connecting to the car port ODB (On-Board Diagnostic) takes part in the operation. At the same time, the authors of the method say that for theft, the car should not have a number of additional security systems. For example, the machine should not have a sensor that responds to breaking a side window, an integrated system for ultrasonic monitoring of dead zones, and the ODB port itself must be constantly on. If the specified conditions are met, then the cracker can steal a car literally with his bare hands.
BMW says that the problem really exists, but they add that the entire automotive industry is constantly struggling with the hijackers, doing this with varying success. The author of the method himself says that BMW is not happy with his excuses, since this company sells its cars in the premium price segment, where there should be no problems with protection and maintenance.
"Fighting ever-increasing attacks is a constant challenge for all automakers. Premium cars like BMW have always been the target of kidnappers," the company said.
