Pentagon surveillance airship
Soon, the American army will be armed with a new surveillance tool - a huge airship the size of a football field, capable of being in the air for at least three weeks.
The creator of the new technology is Northrop Grumman Corporation. The new gadget is called LEMV (Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle).
In 2010, the Pentagon handed over to Northrop Grumman a $ 517 million contract to create an airship that can simultaneously conduct high-precision surveillance and intercept telecommunications traffic. As a result, airship operators will be able to intercept the call, establish the degree of operational interest, and direct a high-resolution camera to the person who called from a height of 20 thousand feet (about 6 kilometers), which will allow for instant identification.
According to Business Insider, the prototype was supposed to be ready six months ago, but the Pentagon postponed the tests for unknown reasons. However, Northrop Grumman hopes that they will take place in the near future, and have already posted several pictures on its website that should show what their brainchild is capable of.
Among the technical characteristics of LEMV: the ability to stay in the air for 21 days, 12-24 crew members to support 18 vehicles on the ground.
