Russian parliamentarians do not intend to cooperate with US Senator Benjamin Cardin, said Alexei Pushkov, head of the international committee of the State Duma. He denied the information that the State Duma intends to cooperate with Senator Cardin on the fight against corruption, and even more so on the search for accounts of Russian citizens. As Pushkov told Interfax on Thursday, the fact of an exchange of views on this matter between Cardin and the Russian parliament, which took place in Vienna, was preliminary and did not lead to specific agreements.
Pushkov emphasized that the State Duma did not consider Senator Cardin as a possible partner. “As you know, he is one of the authors of the Magnitsky law adopted in the USA, which is not an anti-corruption tool, but an obvious example of anti-Russian legislation encroaching on Russia's sovereignty, and, accordingly, the authors of this law cannot be partners in the discussion of the State Duma and resolving any issues, ”the head of the committee added.
At the same time, he noted that the topic of the fight against corruption can be considered as a subject of cooperation with the US Congress.

Российские парламентарии не намерены сотрудничать с американским сенатором Бенджамином Кардином, заявил глава международного комитета Госдумы Алексей Пушков. Он опроверг информацию о том, что Госдума намерена сотрудничать с сенатором Кардином по вопросам борьбы с коррупцией и тем более по поиску счетов российских граждан. Как сообщил Пушков «Интерфаксу» в четверг, факт обмена мнениями на этот счет между Кардином и российскими парламентариями, который имел место в Вене, носил предварительный характер и не привел к конкретным договоренностям.
Пушков подчеркнул, что в Госдуме не рассматривают сенатора Кардина как возможного партнера. «Как известно, он является одним из авторов принятого в США закона Магнитского, который представляет собой не инструмент борьбы с коррупцией, а очевидный пример антироссийского законодательства, покушающегося на суверенитет России, и, соответственно, авторы этого закона не могут быть партнерами Госдумы в обсуждении и решении каких бы то ни было вопросов», — добавил глава комитета.
В то же время он отметил, что тема борьбы с коррупцией может рассматриваться как предмет сотрудничества с конгрессом США.
