8 criminal cases opened against distributors of pornographic materials on the social network "Vkontakte"

MOSCOW, May 20. TASS-Telecom. In the first three months of 2011, units of the Office "K" of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs opened 8 criminal cases against distributors of materials with child pornography on the Vkontakte social network. The total number of criminal cases initiated in the first quarter of 2011 under article 242.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was 73 (for reference, a similar figure in 2010 amounted to 71 criminal cases). This is stated in the message of the Friendly Runet Foundation, prepared on the basis of materials from the Office "K" of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The detentions were carried out in different regions of Russia, police from the Vladimir and Saratov regions showed particular activity. A large amount of visual material with scenes of sexual abuse of minors was seized from detained porn dealers. So in the course of only one search conducted by employees of department “K” of the Republic of Karelia, 13 DVDs with more than 12 thousand photo and video files were found.
In cooperation with the Office "K" of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, a hotline is operating to receive reports of illegal content on the basis of the Friendly Runet Foundation. During the period from January to April 2011, the hotline received 6,239 reports of child pornography on the Internet, of which 749 contained links to the Vkontakte website. According to the messages sent, 3420 addresses were found containing content with signs of child pornography (independent information resources or separate pages with photo and video materials). Of these, 3296 addresses were sent to Russian servers, and 124 - abroad. Through the Friendly Runet hotline, content with child pornography from 3310 addresses was deleted. Also, the delegation of 12 domains with illegal information was canceled.
