A computer security specialist was able to crack the code of a new biometric passport, which are now being introduced in Europe and the United States, in a few days. According to the consultant of the German company Lucas Grunwald at an international conference in Las Vegas, it took him only 2 weeks to crack the code and clone all the information contained in the electronic passport onto another empty chip that can be installed in a fake document. According to the expert, his experience proves the complete futility of the new biometric passports, which store, in addition to ordinary information, fingerprints and retina data of the passport holder. In the UK alone, nearly a billion dollars were spent on this program. The expert was able to crack the code with the help of equipment, which cost him only $ 200. Специалист в области компьютерной безопасности смог за несколько дней взломать код нового биометрического паспорта, которые сейчас внедряются в Европе и Соединенных Штатах. Как сообщил консультант немецкой компании Лукас Грюнвальд на международной конференции в Лас-Вегасе, ему потребовалось всего 2 недели для того, чтобы взломать код и клонировать всю информацию, содержащуюся в электронном паспорте, на другой пустой чип, который можно установить в фальшивом документе. По мнению эксперта, этот его опыт доказывает полную бесполезность новых биометрических паспортов, хранящих помимо обычной информации данные об отпечатках пальцев и сетчатки глаза обладателя паспорта. В одной только Великобритании на эту программу потрачено почти миллиард долларов. Эксперт смог взломать код с помощью оборудования, которое обошлось ему всего в $200. Правда, британские власти утверждают, что скопированная информация не может быть изменена по желанию преступника, что, впрочем, является слабым утешением для британского правительства. На прошлой неделе комитет Палаты общин по науке призвал власти пересмотреть технологию, по которой уже сейчас выдаются новые биометрические загранпаспорта.
