The optional Energizer DUO charger software contains malicious code that allows attackers to gain control of a computer. The charger has been available since 2007 and is used to charge batteries through an electrical outlet or a USB port.
American security experts have determined that the Trojan is included in the software that displays the battery charge indicator on the computer screen. With its help, attackers can control the infected computer remotely - view the contents of folders, transfer files, run programs.
According to PC Pro, the Trojan is contained only in the software version for Windows. The Energizer DUO Charger provides the ability to charge a pair of AA or AAA Ni-MH batteries from a computer’s USB port or from an electrical outlet. It has been sold since 2007 and is shipped to the United States, Europe and Asia.
Representatives of Energizer said that the production of the charger of this model is temporarily suspended. The company recommended that all users immediately remove the “delinquent” software from the computer. Energizer is currently investigating to find out how the malicious code entered the program.
