MOSCOW, Sep 16 - RAPSI. One of the accused of the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, ex-colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, suggested that Boris Berezovsky could be the customer of the murder, the Kommersant newspaper wrote on Friday.
The well-known journalist, columnist for Novaya Gazeta, human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya was killed on October 7, 2006 in Moscow at the entrance of her house on Lesnaya Street (near Belorussky Train Station). Gunshot wounds were found on the body of the dead woman, and an abandoned Makarov pistol and four cartridges were found nearby. The first information indicated contract killings, as four shots were fired, including a headshot. As one of the first versions of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, the investigation called her professional activities.
“Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov (testifying) did not rule out that the order for a journalist could have come to the Chechen criminal authority (Lom-Ali Gaitukaev) from businessman Boris Berezovsky. The surveillance was carried out by the Makhmudov brothers, to whom the accused handed over the Izh gas pistol, converted to firing live ammunition.
According to Pavlyuchenkov, at first during the preparation of the “operation” on Politkovskaya it was only a question of surveillance, but then an order was received from Gaitukaev: the murder should be committed no later than October 7, the birthday of Vladimir Putin, who was then president of Russia.
“In the near future, the investigation will separate his case into a separate proceeding, and if it does not happen, the court will consider it in a special order, which guarantees the accused a minimum period,” the newspaper writes.
The defense of the ex-policeman appealed against the measure of restraint he had chosen earlier and is counting on the transfer of the client to house arrest in connection with his state of health.
