The British have calculated the size of the global market for technical safety equipment
The British research company Memoori has released a report on the state of the global market for electronic means and security systems. According to them, in 2010 the volume of the world market at factory prices of manufacturers amounted to 18.67 billion US dollars. This means a slight increase of 0.8% compared to 2009, but is still significantly below the peak market in 2008.
The main part of the market - 47.5% - consists of video surveillance equipment and systems, the share of which increased by 4.5% over the year. In second place with 29.5% are security alarm systems and systems, in third are access control and management systems, which occupy 23% of the market. That is, there is significant progress in the development of access control systems, confident superiority of video surveillance and a noticeable reduction in demand for alarm systems against the background of an overall improvement in the industry.
The fact that in 2010 the activity of companies to consolidate the market through mergers and acquisitions intensified is also indicative of overcoming the crisis and the general revival of the security market. The total value of all M&A transactions last year amounted to almost $ 8 billion, or 75% more than a year earlier. Moreover, this figure is even 28% higher than the record levels of 2005 and 2007.
It is significant that, with almost doubled the total value of transactions, mergers and acquisitions themselves, only 80 happened in 2010 compared to 77 in 2009. Such a difference in the monetary terms of transactions is due to the fact that last year M&A transactions were mainly attended by companies from the top of the list, which determined such volumes of transactions. The sum of only the three largest transactions amounted to $ 4.3 billion, and another 7 companies paid more than $ 250 million each.
The report also contains other interesting facts, in particular, on changes in the geography of sales and consumption of funds and security systems that have occurred over the past 3 years. For example, China over the past 5 years has doubled its market share to 11%. Similar processes are going on in other countries of Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and South America.
