Letters of happiness
February 19th, 2012 Admin
One of the most popular types of fraud on the Internet is sending out "Nigerian letters." Recently, their activity has substantially decreased, thanks to the actions of law enforcement agencies, but this kind of deception must be remembered, because the new is the well-forgotten old.
So, let's first look at what kind of fruit this is - Nigerian letters - and what is important for an ordinary person to know about them. As the name implies, the homeland of this fraud is Nigeria, from where the letters of happiness are sent by spam on behalf of the unfortunate businessman deprived of the throne of the king, the lawyer of the deceased large rich man and so on.
Each of them contains a touching story about how someone was deprived of power, but he managed to hide a large amount of money, how someone is hiding from villains who also want to take away wealth, or that the deceased rich person had the same surname as the recipient of the letter, but no one knows about his death. There was another kind of Nigerian letters: winning the mythical lottery, which involved email addresses.
In any case, no matter what the content of the letter is, you need to know that the essence boils down to one thing: somewhere in a secret place lies a carriage of money and the help of the recipient of the letter is needed to cash out. Moreover, the recipient of the letter is a priori honest and will receive very generous commissions for their help, which can reach 40 percent. As a result, after calculating the approximate profits, from this simple, allegedly, case, the victim’s eyes begin to burn and he’s ready to do anything to get large sums of money and here, as the professionals say, the fish is on the hook.
It is worth knowing that professional fraudsters are very well prepared to process their victims. They can set up their own websites, rent offices where the victim can come to make sure there is no dirty trick, and sometimes they have connections with various government organizations, which makes their legend quite plausible and confirmed from official sources, letters can be sent to the doubting victim on letterhead with stamps and signatures.
It is important to know that there have been cases when real bankers and government officials in Nigeria participated in such scams. However, this is just a fraud in which only those who started it profit.
If we talk about my impressions of the Nigerian letters, then at one time they came almost every day. It is clear that they all went to the trash right there, but with one letter I decided to work in view of the availability of free time in order to get to know their work system better. True, I’ll say right away that I, apparently, fell on newcomers to this business.
The story in my case was this: one unfortunate pretty lady is imprisoned, being married to one of the British oligarchs. She all wants to get out of there, but no one lets her out. She can escape from this captivity, but she does not have money for existence further. And then she saw my photo (I wonder where, if at that time there were no classmates and other contacts, and the mail was registered just a month ago as a garbage bin) and realized that she could not live without me.
I had to pay commission fees, open a bank account and wait for happiness in the form of a heap of money and a beautiful wife from England. I agreed immediately, but asked a beauty unknown to me for a bunch of photographs against the backdrop of the house, against the backdrop of big ben and other London sights. It’s clear that she didn’t have all this, as her photos were stupidly scanned from some magazine.
After she asked me to pay the first commission of 450 British pounds, I told her a heart-rending story that I had read about such fraud on the Internet and did not want to get on the same rake. To confirm the guarantee, I proposed to send me, for starters, 50 pounds, with which I will prove to my mother and friends that a great monetary happiness has really fallen on me.
As a result, my “beloved” wrote to me that I did not believe her, and she no longer loved me. Oh my god, how can I live on.
In conclusion, I will say a few words about what to do if you received a Nigerian letter of happiness. My advice here will be the simplest: do nothing and click the Delete button, which will send this spam to where it belongs.
Of course, if you want something hot, you can enter into correspondence with scammers. Moreover, you can get a lot of pleasure from this business, however, it is always necessary to keep your head cold, as it is important to know and clearly be aware that this is a fraud, and no one in the world will just give money to the first comer (even lottery ticket and that should be bought).
And if you fell for such a bait and got you divorced, then there is practically no hope to return the money, and applying to law enforcement agencies will not produce any results. In any case, according to professionals and specialists, the probability of success tends to zero.
