A third of Ukrainians regard the chance of having an accidental night meeting with a policeman, while only 21% of respondents see a law enforcement officer as a guarantee of their safety, follows from a poll published on Friday conducted by the Razumkov Center.
The study, which covered 2 thousand 9 respondents throughout Ukraine, shows that 6% of respondents fully support the activities of the police, and 26% support their individual actions. 57% of respondents decided to negatively evaluate the actions of the police, reports Reuters.
The Ukrainian police, which is traditionally considered one of the most corrupt services in the country, have not been seriously reformed for 20 years of independence, and the few cosmetic changes carried out during the years of the “orange” government are canceled by the new leadership of the ministry.
In addition, in recent months, authorities have increasingly used the Ministry of Internal Affairs to fight the opposition, protesting against the trial of its leader Yulia Tymoshenko.
According to sociologists, over 43% of citizens who turned to the police for help did not receive it, and 31% received it late or not in full.
