Al_kuzin asked me to talk about algorithms for finding addresses of buildings from photographs.

When working with office real estate, I sometimes needed to find objects for my clients that were presented on the websites of other agencies. As a rule, agencies do not provide the address of the object on their website, but in most cases they publish the metro station and the distance "on foot" to it from the object. The task is to find the address of the object from the photograph. Honestly, I really love these tasks!

It is solved by satellite maps of Yandex or Google. Naturally, we are talking about cities that are "photographed" more or less clearly. Panoramas of Yandex and Gdeetotdom.ru help in Moscow (the second is better, there are more streets involved).

I’ll tell you the main ways to quickly search for an object on these maps. I will not write that
after each stage, you can look at the map in the radius of this "walk from the subway" and search.

1. As a rule, there are several photos of the object from different angles, including inside.
The first thing that is best done is to find distinctive places in the photo - perhaps some kind of large house - or, for example, an unusual roof with turrets of a neighboring house.

2. It is necessary to determine the height of the desired house - on satellite maps it is easy to understand which house is tall and which is low.
Having looked through all the photos, it is schematic to draw the perimeter of the house and the nearest buildings - this will certainly help in the search. I somehow manage to understand how the house is located on the cardinal points - I don’t know how to describe it - I can somehow determine by the sun or shadow.

3. Neighborhoods can be analyzed from photographs in this way - the closer the house is photographed, the less space was for the photographer, which means there is either a house or a fence. To determine this is easier than ever - if there are windows in the house, it means that the opposite is reflected in them. As usual, the windows just reflect what plays the most useful role in the search - abundant greenery, a monument or the building of Gazprom. Photos from inside the building also help to get a picture of the surroundings. Similarly defined
street sizes next to the building. By the location of parked cars, you can understand whether a one-way street or not. Streets are a very important part, you can search for an object directly on it by the size of the street you notice, and if there is no street in the photo, then the object in the courtyards will both narrow the scope of the search.

That's all with the search for office buildings from external photographs.
But it happens when there are simply no external photos, but only internal ones. The likelihood of success here is extremely small and directly depends on the distinctive details of the room, on which you can analyze.

1. If the room is empty, then only windows can help here, or rather their configuration - sizes, number of wings, decorative layouts, etc. As well as views from these windows. Having determined this, alas, you will only have to hope for a search in panoramas.
2. If the room is photographed alive, i.e. with furniture and a working mess, all the small non-standard details of the office interior play a role here. And the main task here is to understand the name of the company, so that through an open search to "break through" the address.

The most important thing in such offices is what hangs on the walls:

- a large calendar, on which the company logo is clearly visible - the larger the calendar, the more likely it is NOT a gift from the partner company, the less - the opposite);
- industry posters - oil industry, construction, etc .;
- photographs of their own products - for example, the advertising poster of a particular beer is unlikely to hang from the company that likes to consume this beer;
- it happens that the company logo itself actually hangs.

The second, and also very important, is what stands on the tables and stands:
- flags of companies;
- awards (TEFI, etc.)
- examples of our own products.

That's all, and now the favorite stories of a successful search.

Office on Pokrovka. I know that the office is near the metro Chistye Prudy, there are only internal photographs. There are many of them, the most attractive picture is the reception photo with the company nameplate, but alas, the nameplate is unreadable. I analyze the pictures for a long time, until an incomprehensible bottle attracted my attention.
on a serious leader’s desk. Logic suggested that the bottle could not be here for consumption, but could only mean something to the leader. The bottle is black with some red patterns, which is very strange, but my brain gives out the answer in colors - Red Devil. I am not a consumer of this liquid, but apparently the packaging, logos, color combinations and everything else related to visual communications absorb my memory so that I can’t even force myself to remember until I accidentally determine.
I drive Red Devil into Yandex and see this bottle on the very first page of the image search. And I saw this bottle only here for the first time in my life at all. I find a producer, I find her office on Chistye Prudy by searching for organizations. Done!

Office for 1905. Photos are internal. It seems that there is nothing to immediately catch on, but on one of the photos I see the magazines hanging on the wall in the framework. For some reason, the eye clings to an ambiguous magazine with an almost unreadable name, but I understand that this is Biography magazine, I find the covers of this magazine in Yandex - it all matches the design - I punch through the address of the magazine’s publishing house - and exactly where it’s looking . The laughter I caused was that instead of messing around with the analysis of the Biography magazine, a GEO magazine was hanging nearby on the same wall, which is impossible to recognize by its colors. This is his own publishing house.

Good luck with your intelligence!

- большой календарь, на котором отчетливо виден логотип компании - чем больше календарь, тем больше вероятность, что это НЕ подарок компании-партнера, чем меньше - тем наоборот);
- отраслевые постеры - нефтянка, стройка и т.п.;
- фотографии собственной продукции - например, рекламный постер конкретного пива вряд ли будет висеть у той компании, которая это пиво только потреблять любит;

- флажки компаний;
