FSB will streamline the Internet

The FSB has proposed amendments to the law “On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information”, expanding the rights of law enforcement agencies when working with providers and Internet sites. The law on information is proposed to be supplemented with an article regulating the relations of Internet service providers (telecom operators, hosting providers and domain registrars) with law enforcement agencies. In particular, they may be required to store information about their users and the services rendered to them for six months and provide it to law enforcement agencies. The FSB also offers to provide law enforcement agencies with the opportunity to close extremist sites by letter from the prosecutor's office within three days after receiving it. The FSB amendments suggest obliging all providers and registrars to suspend the domain by a “reasoned letter” to the head of the law enforcement agency.
