Re: Private detectives in Latvia.
I didn’t want to correct this note much. In the Republic of Latvia, there is a law "On detective work." According to the law: detective activity can be carried out by a detective society, after obtaining a license or a certified detective. That would be a detective. at least one sert detective could be accepted for work. Within a month after receiving a license or certificate, detectives are required to register with the state revenue service and regularly report on all accounting rules and pay taxes. cancellation of a license or certificate, non-fulfillment of tax obligations. Monitoring of the activities of detectives is carried out by the State Police, which has the right to request the necessary documents, oral and written information to perform control functions. Licensing Commission of the State Police issues and extends permits based on the Cabinet of Ministers regulations of the Republic of Latvia. .This applies to detectives who are engaged in detective work legally. In relation to obtaining information from government sources it is really difficult because Latvia has a really strict Law on the protection of personal data. Decisions on the access of detectives (even on a paid basis) to such databases as the "Register of Residents", "Criminal Records", etc., and "hung in the air" and no progress is observed. Latvia does not have a real association (organization) of detectives that could really advance its proposals to amend the law and defend the interests of detectives within the legal framework.
