Rostov cameras did not record the accident involving a drunken deputy, because they did not work
Deputy Dmitry Ostrovenko, through whose fault a major accident occurred in the center of Rostov on June 10, 23-year-old Igor Verbenko died, refused to testify. The former United Russia party (on Friday at an emergency meeting he was expelled from the party, and then wrote a statement in the detention center on early resignation of the deputy) used article 51 of the Constitution, which states that "no one is obliged to testify against himself." Despite this, the investigators have already interviewed several dozen witnesses who claim that Dmitry Ostrovenko was intoxicated. Moreover, immediately after the accident, the deputy agreed to “breathe into the tube”, the breathalyzer showed that the man was drunk. True, then the people's deputy categorically refused to donate blood and urine for analysis.
“The deputy of the city council who committed the accident and, through negligence, caused the death of a person, has already been charged,” the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Rostov Region reports. - In the shortest possible time, the investigators carried out the whole range of necessary investigative actions: identified eyewitnesses to the traffic accident, witnesses were examined, car inspections were carried out, necessary examinations were appointed.
Investigators also clarify the information of some bloggers who claim that not two, but at least four accidents occurred due to the fault of a drunken deputy at Bolshaya Sadovaya. Allegedly, in the area of the bus station, a similar black Porsche hooked a Toyota from another region, and then there was a collision with an unidentified car in the area of Budennovsky Avenue.
- All this information is checked, we have a big request for eyewitnesses not just to write and discuss on the Internet, but to show a civic position, contact the investigation by phone - 255-94-62, 255 94-61, 201 68-40, 201- 68-68, 255-94-63, 248-31-98, - they say in the SC SC. - In particular, some of the data announced earlier are not confirmed. This is an attempt to bribe a deputy of the traffic police.
As for the CCTV cameras, which are abundant on the main street of the city, it is still unclear whether they worked that night. A clear response from the traffic police has not yet been received. However, from unofficial sources, Komsomolka learned that the cameras did not work practically throughout the city due to a technical malfunction of the server of the Safe City situation center.
Recall that on June 10, 2011, at about 3 a.m., a drunk deputy of the Rostov City Duma, Dmitry Ostrovenko, was driving a Porsche-Cayenne from the bus station to Theater Square. He controlled the car so inadequately that it allegedly hit several cars (eyewitnesses and victims are urged to contact the investigation), including deu-Nexia at the intersection of Chekhov and Bolshaya Sadovaya. On Kirovsky Avenue, an expensive foreign car rammed the Six, which stopped at a red traffic light and dragged more than a hundred meters, hitting a parked taxi. 23-year-old Lada driver Igor Verbenko, returning home from the shift (he worked as a locomotive driver), died at the scene of the accident. This fall, the only son in the family planned to get married. Another girl who was in a taxi was taken to the hospital. The deputy himself escaped according to the well-known proverb “drunken sea knee-deep” - a bruised leg.
Meanwhile, the situation around the accident continues to cause a public outcry. At the weekend, friends and relatives of the deceased gathered at the scene of the accident, as well as sympathizing Rostovites who brought flowers and candles. They met with the head of the Don police Alexei Lapin, who said that this case could not be released on the brakes. Mayor Mikhail Chernyshev wrote on his blog that the administration is not going to lobby the interests of MP Ostrovenko.
“We will not turn a blind eye to obvious things - the realities are such that someone today can really have advantages over the law,” the mayor wrote. - And this cannot but alarm. Unfortunately, this is a problem not only of Rostov, but of our society as a whole. Only by consolidating the efforts of all branches and levels of government and, most importantly, the population, we can turn the tide. I want everyone to understand that the municipal government does not have the highest status in the state hierarchy. But if users could get the impression that the city hall would lobby the interests of the culprit of the accident, I officially declare: this will not happen.
