The scandal with wiretaps and surveillance of British politicians and pop stars is drawn to more and more publications. Rupert Murdoch News Corp. media empire newspapers such as The Sun and The Sunday Times participated in the illegal collection of information. Their victim was former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, The Guardian found out.

Not only the British tabloid News of the World, but also other newspapers belonging to the empire of the Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch, News Corp., including The Sun and The Sunday Times, were engaged in illegal collection of information, including wiretapping, interception of voice messages, e-mail and photo tracking. About this writes on Tuesday the British The Guardian.
The former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who left office in May 2010, fell victim to the invasion of privacy. As it turned out, a private detective hired by the newspapers used his contacts in the police to get acquainted with the dossiers of the Labor politician collected by law enforcement agencies.
In addition, the yellow media obtained data on the tax returns of the former prime minister over the past ten years, hiring hackers who broke into the computer network of an accounting firm whose client was Brown. Through deception, The Sunday Times also received information from Brown's lawyers from Allen & Overy Law Office.
The Sunday Times newspaper hired an imitator six times, who called Abbey National Bank, where Brown keeps his money, and, speaking in his voice, asked for information about the details of his account.
In addition, Murdoch's other newspaper, The Sun, obtained a medical record of Brown’s firstborn and published material about him. Brown's first child, the daughter of Jennifer Jane, was born premature in 2001 and lived only ten days, having died from a brain hemorrhage. As details about the baby’s illness leaked to the press, it remains unclear.

The organized intrusion of journalists into the private life of the former prime minister became known from materials collected during the investigation of wiretaps organized by NOTW. On Friday, Andy Coulson, the former chief editor of the oldest British tabloid, was arrested. It was from his submission that the publication’s employees were engaged in illegal collection of information. The first scandal erupted back in 2007, after it turned out that News of the World reporters listened to conversations of members of the royal family, including intercepting the voice messages of Prince William. Then the editor of the department of life of the royal family, Clive Goodman, and private detective Glen Malkeyr went to jail. Evidence of the Brown spying was obtained during the search precisely at Malkeyr.
According to The Guardian, the scale of the invasion of Brown’s personal life was so much superior to files collected by other politicians (including former Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Secretary of Commerce Peter Mandelson, former Interior Ministers Jack Straw and David Blanket) that Scotland Yard sent ex-prime minister and his wife Sarah a special letter. In it, the police notified of the discoveries made as part of Operation Whiting. UK law enforcement agencies launched two operations, Whiting and Elveden (after the names of two British villages), during the first of which wiretapping was investigated, and in the second, bribery of police officers who told News of the World details of criminal cases for money. Malkeyr's handwritten notes taken during the search still did not attract the attention of investigators, who were satisfied four years ago with charges of spying on members of the royal family.

“The family is shocked at the level of illegality and the unethical ways in which data about private life was obtained. The investigation is in the hands of the police, ”the official spokesman for the Brown commented on the news.
The scandal has already led to the closure of News of the world, the last issue of which appeared last Sunday. A tabloid with a 168-year history apologized to its readers for not being able to carry the high standards of the British press.

On Monday night, it became known that Murdoch’s media empire was ready to sell all of its British newspaper assets. Murdoch’s plans were told by an American journalist and biography media mogul Michael Wolfe. According to him, the leadership of the United States-based corporation Murdoch discussed the issue of completely getting rid of News International, which owns such British newspapers as The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and News of the World itself.

В противозаконном сборе информации участвовали такие газеты медиаимперии Руперта Мердока News Corp., как The Sun и The Sunday Times. The Guardian.

Не только британский таблоид News of the World, но и другие газеты, входящие в империю австралийского медиамагната Руперта Мердока News Corp., включая The Sun и The Sunday Times, занимались противозаконным сбором информации, включая прослушку, перехват голосовых сообщений, электронной почты и фотослежку. The Guardian.
Allen & Overy.

Скандал уже привел к закрытию News of the world, последний выпуск которого появился в минувшее воскресенье.

The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun и собственно News of the World.
