UGG® Australia
How to distinguish genuine UGG® Australia uggs and fakes?
ugg
'ugg' is a generic term for natural sheepskin boots that appeared in Australia more than 200 years ago. In the world there are a number of brands of sheepskin boots, one of which is UGG® Australia, the leader in this market, after all, celebrity boots are preferred by this brand. The rights to use the word UGG in Europe and the USA are owned by the American company Deckers. These boots are American, not Australian! Most UGG® Australia boots are made in China, and only a few earlier models, such as the Ultra, are made in Australia and New Zealand.
In addition to the classic boots, the company is constantly developing new ultra-fashionable models of different colors and with original patterns that cannot be bought cheaply either abroad or in Russia. In Australia, however, the word ugg is not registered as a trademark, and any sheepskin boots there may still be called ugg boots. For example, in Australia boots are produced with the heel label indicating 'UGG
"Made in Australia". These are also boots made of natural sheepskin, only another brand and another manufacturer. They do not violate any laws or attempt to imitate UGG® Australia. Because of this conflict between the generic term and the ugg trademark, determining which boots are “real 1917-blk_150 ugg boots” is entirely up to you. In a general sense of the word, boots made of natural sheepskin (usually from the skin of a merino) can be considered real, unlike boots made of artificial materials. However, when it comes to the UGG® Australia brand, some people consider other brands of sheepskin boots, such as Emu, to be fake. This is not entirely true, but everything is determined by personal preference.
Recently, UGG® Australia brand name fakes have been widely distributed. In the manufacture of counterfeit products, even UGG® labels and logos are copied and are often made not of natural sheepskin, but of synthetic materials.
In counterfeit synthetic shoes, the feet will sweat and the boots will not stretch, unlike natural ones.
There are several criteria for identifying a fake (counterfeit):
1. Country of production:
For several years, Deckers has been hosting UGG® Australia in China (labeled MADE IN CHINA). UGG® Australia brand uggs that are advertised as being made in Australia or New Zealand are counterfeit. They copy labels, inscriptions on the sole, boxes, but their manufacturer is not Deckers (we remind you that UGG®Australia brand Ultra boots are made in New Zealand!).
If boots are shipped directly from a factory in China, this is a fake. Deckers never does this.
2. Inner fur and trim:
Inside genuine Deckers UGG®, the real sheepskin fur is fluffy, dense and creamy (it is not dyed in light models of boots). Fakes use faux fur - grayish, thinner, and if rubbed, it crumbles a little.
If the fakes are made not of sheepskin, but of faux fur, they smell accordingly paint for synthetic materials. Another way to identify a fake: it is necessary to pinch the fur inside with one hand, and pull the skin from the outside with the other hand, and if they diverge, then this is a fake. Original products are made only from sheepskin, which is a single layer, but has two sides - leather and fur. Crafts are two layers sewn together. The fur on the inside of the bootleg of real UGG® Australia boots matches the color of the boots themselves, but the sheepskin on the insole is always a natural, cream color.
3. Sole:
The original UGG® Australia boots of the classic collection feature a herringbone embossed pattern on the sole with UGG ® inscriptions in the center. In fakes, the sole is often flat. If there is a pattern on the sole, then in real UGG® the transition of the smooth heel to the embossed sole is smooth (left), for fakes, just a solid line (right) is often visible:

On the sole of these Deckers boots, next to the UGG inscription is a registered trademark sign - the letter R in a circle). For counterfeits, such a sign is usually absent (on the right), but recently there have also been counterfeits with the ® sign.

Since 2009, the pattern of the soles of classic uggs has changed (uggs with the old pattern of the sole are still on sale in stores!
UGG® Australia black classic boots have a black sole and a black patch with white UGG letters, but there are fakes with a beige sole and a brown patch.
- Original sole
The sole of the original boots is very flexible, the counterfeit ones have a hard sole. The height of the original, genuine UGG® Australia boots is about 13 mm, and for counterfeits it is often thin no more than 6-7 mm.
4. Labels and protective bags:
There are fakes to which a blue or brown tag and / or sheepskin has been pinned, as well as a textile brown or beige bag with the inscription "Snow Boots" ("winter boots") attached. UGG® Australia boots never have tags or bags attached.
Heel stripes are slightly different. You should pay attention to the bold and larger font in the word 'australia' on counterfeit boots (right). In addition, on real stripes, the ® badge is located directly opposite the gap between the upper and lower parts of the letter G (left), while on many fakes the ® badge is located closer to the top:
On fakes, the heel patch is often too high, there may be spaces between the UGG letters. On the original boots, the middle letter is larger and slightly overlaps the first and third.
5. Dimensions:
Counterfeit Uggs, in contrast to the original ones, are not “big giants” (standard European and US sizes: 36 = 6, 37 = 7, etc., classic UGG® Australia boots must be bought one size smaller, i.e. 36 = 5, 37 = 6, etc.). Fake Uggs are wider at the ankles. The heel of fake Uggs is much narrower than real ones. Fake boots can be higher or lower than real Uggs (tall fake boots are often only slightly higher than classic ankle boots).
6. Box and care instructions:
Since June 2007, UGG® Australia boots boxes no longer have white boot-care booklets in place - they have been replaced with a cream card and a beige shade.
Important !!! The box never shows the Australian flag! UGG® Australia is an American rather than an Australian brand !!!!
7. Other signs of counterfeit (fake):
The visual difference between a fake: boots are often sharply pointed to the socks (right), while real, original boots have a smooth bend (left):
Very poor quality seams is another sign of fake.
- Some sellers give out children's uggs for women. Difference: on the inner label of children's boots are the sizes of the USA, Great Britain, Europe and Japan (USA, UK, EU, Japan), for women - only the USA (from 5 to 11).
- On eBay, fakes are most often sold, as official dealers of UGG® Australia sign an agreement prohibiting them from trading on eBay, Amazon.com and other online auctions or marketplaces.
- If you plan to buy UGG® Australia boots through a foreign website, pay attention to its name. If the word UGG is present in it, then it is definitely NOT official dealers, but sellers of fakes, since the company does not allow dealers to use UGG in website names.
UGG® Australia's original boots are never called Snow Boots, "winter boots."
Attention !!!
All original UGG ® Australia products, starting in the fall of 2010, will be delivered with additional anti-counterfeiting protection:
- a label (security sticker) with holographic elements will be glued on the delivered products, allowing you to identify the original UGG ® products. When viewed from various angles of the sticker ribbon, the color should change from white to black. On holographic stickers, reflective elements change color, and the UGG logo appears or disappears.
If these conditions are met, then you buy original UGG® Australia products.
If the UGG® Australia product has a label, the security sticker will be sewn into it. On shoes, the sticker may be on the sole of the left boot.
