A suspect in the murder of a family of five in Tula was in a civil marriage with one of the victims - the mother of the three killed boys, said Andrei Mishagin, acting chief of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Tula region, to Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev during a video conference on Thursday.
Nurgaliev is on a working visit to Yekaterinburg.
The bodies of three boys (three, four and nine years old), their mothers and grandmothers, were found by police in one of the apartments on Kutuzov Street in Tula on August 1. The crime was allegedly committed on the night of July 25th. The neighbors called the police because of the cadaverous smell.
The brutal murder of the family of Maria Shkarupa caused a great public outcry. On suspicion of committing a crime, the question of the detention of a young man, born in 1992, is being decided. Earlier, the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the suspect was mentally unstable.
According to Mishagin, the investigation worked out three versions of the crime: the first - a murder out of mercenary motives, the second - a murder related to the professional activities of one of the victims, the third - a crime motivated by personal hostile relations.
Mishagin noted that for the first time, the help of psychologists from the Ministry of Internal Affairs was used to compile a psychological portrait of the criminal.
“Police officers interviewed more than 300 people, verified more than 1000 operational information, established the distribution points of the kidnapped, and managed to detain the offender,” Mishagin said, adding that the criminal police and the economic crime unit were involved in solving the crime.
“Now investigative actions are being carried out with the detainee. We are 100% sure that he committed a crime ... The criminal knew the victims, he was in a civil marriage with the deceased, ”he said.
The Minister of the Interior instructed Mishagin to prepare materials for rewarding employees involved in solving the crime, and also thanked the entire staff of the Tula police.

Как сообщил Мишагин, следствие отрабатывало три версии преступления: первая — убийство из корыстных побуждений, вторая — убийство, связанное с профессиональной деятельностью одной из погибших, третья — преступление на почве личных неприязненных отношений.
Мишагин отметил, что для расследования преступления впервые использовалась помощь психологов МВД для составления психологического портрета преступника.
«Сотрудниками полиции было опрошено более 300 человек, проверено более 1000 оперативных сведений, были установлены места сбыта похищенного, и удалось задержать преступника», — сказал Мишагин, добавив, что для раскрытия преступления были задействованы сотрудники криминальной полиции и подразделения по экономическим преступлениям.
«Сейчас с задержанным проводятся следственные действия. Мы уверены на 100%, что он совершил преступление… Преступник знал потерпевших, он состоял в гражданском браке с погибшей», — отметил он.
Министр внутренних дел поручил Мишагину подготовить материалы для награждения сотрудников, участвующих в раскрытии преступления, а также объявил благодарность всему личному составу Тульской полиции.
