Should you store your data in the cloud?

Cloud storage is convenient. But there are no security guarantees, Andrey Masalovich, an expert in the field of information security, said on the air of Sputnik radio.

Most Russian companies do not trust cloud technologies, 58% of organizations have doubts about data security, according to the consulting company PwC.

Moreover, this applies to organizations in different fields of activity and with different staff sizes. Large companies are more likely to distrust cloud services (54%) than small and medium-sized companies (28% and 18%).

At the same time, they recognize the advantages of such a storage system: scalability, cost optimization and access to technologies that are not available locally.

However, no one guarantees the security of data sent to the cloud, says Andrei Masalovich, President of the Inforus consortium, an expert in the field of information security.
- Cloud storage is a nice name that means that you have entrusted the storage of data to other people's servers. At the same time, we have the fastest reading people - one second passes between the mark “read the agreement” and the mark “read and agree”. In the agreement, if you read it carefully, it is written that those to whom you entrusted the data are not responsible for anything. That is, the data may be lost or fall into the wrong hands. They are responsible only for the physical availability of their servers, ”said Andrey Masalovich on the air of Sputnik radio.
According to him, the owners of data themselves sometimes make it easier to steal data.
“It is very easy to make mistakes when setting up access to this data, and often administrators make mistakes and the data becomes open. In addition, the data would be easy to hide if the names were left unreadable. But everyone makes names convenient for themselves: Sberbank calls its files "Sberbank", "Uber" - "Uber". This makes it very easy for hackers. There are special search engines that allow you to look for such leaks. If you are going to store data in the cloud storage, you should know that it is convenient, but not yet secure, - Andrey Masalovich summed up.
