“Today, we are already investigating the case under article 126 (kidnapping), a number of articles are still being finalized,” Kovalev said, adding that cases under other articles would be instituted if the investigation established other crimes with respect to girls. A man faces up to 12 years in prison.
Kovalev noted that today the investigation is preparing to go to court with a motion to elect a preventive measure for the alleged kidnapper. “There is reason to believe that he will be arrested,” he said.
Dasha Popova disappeared on the afternoon of September 19 right in front of her house. Around 14.00 Dasha broke up with a classmate, went to her porch and rang the intercom. When after a few minutes she never went up to the apartment, her parents began her search and reported this to law enforcement agencies. The search involved the entire staff of the Don police, investigators, the Ministry of Emergencies, as well as more than 20 thousand volunteers.
On Thursday, the girl was found alive and healthy in an area of one of the city markets during an overnight trip. The alleged kidnapper, a 57-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don, took the girl directly from the entrance. According to police, the man kept the girl all this time in the car - in the back seat or in the trunk.

According to the investigation, in 1982 the suspect was 11 years in prison for attempting to kill his wife. “According to the suspect himself, he previously worked as a criminal investigator in Moscow. Now this information is being checked, ”said the investigator.
